BLS Description: This position is for a seasonal travel RN
specializing in Medical-Surgical nursing. The unit consists of 48
private patient rooms with a daily normal census of 48 patients.
The unit is staffed with 62 personnel including a charge nurse,
patient care technicians, and registered nurses. The
patient-to-nurse ratio is 6:1 for both day and night shifts.
Telemetry monitoring is utilized for patient care. The electronic
medical record system used is Meditech. Candidates must have a
background in Med-Surg nursing. Preferred candidates will have
experience working with spinal cord injury patients. Typical
procedures performed on the unit include wound care, occasional
bowel programs, and light burn care. The ideal candidate is someone
who enjoys a busy floor environment. This unit specializes in the
care of surgical flap patients and spinal cord injury patients with
stage 4 wounds requiring surgical intervention. Partnerships exist
with a burn unit for the care of low-acuity burn patients.
Semi-private rooms may be utilized when patient census is high,
although this is not the preferred method of operation. 5 Benefits
